Our client, a global engineering consultancy, is seeking a Chief Engineer – Mechanical Engineering to join their team in Leamington Spa. This is a permanent position with a flexible working pattern of 3 days on-site and 2 days remote.
Specialising in rapid engineering and development of sustainable electrified propulsion systems and related technologies, they collaborate with automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, aerospace, and defence OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, and research bodies across North America, the U.K., and India.
Position Description
You will apply innovation and initiative daily to design and prototype propulsion and actuation systems for a new era of sustainable technology, within a dynamic and focused team. Their systems range from 1 Watt to mega-Watts, powering vehicles and applications across land, air, and water, enabling their global clients to achieve unprecedented feats.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver technical work packages and entire projects profitably.
2. Propose innovative R&D projects to the CTO.
3. Review and approve precision 2D manufacturing drawings according to standards.
4. Engage in business development within Mechanical Engineering, including scope, timing, resources, and cost estimates for RFQs.
5. Utilise advanced simulation techniques and design tools to develop transmission, driveline, and actuation systems.
6. Develop new industry solutions, generating market-leading innovations.
7. Lead by example, ensuring high-quality execution of technical processes and standards.
8. Manage cross-functional projects, maintaining budget, margins, and strong customer relationships.
9. Build and sustain strategic relationships to enhance revenue streams.
10. Contribute to the professional development of team members.
11. Participate actively in the Mechanical Engineering quality system, fostering technical and procedural growth.
12. Promote DSD through forums, conferences, and white papers.
13. Handle challenging proposals and quotes, strategising project delivery while mitigating risks.
Requirements
* Extensive experience in developing transmission systems across sectors such as automotive, aerospace, off-highway, or marine.
* High competency in design and CAE analysis of rotating systems.
* Proficiency in applying GD&T for manufacturing processes.
* Proven success in system integration projects.
* Ability to develop comprehensive system propositions beyond Mechanical Engineering, including hydraulics, controls, and electrification.
* Innovative problem-solving skills and capability development.
* Understanding of industry market trends and technology applications.
* Track record of applying non-standard solutions and mentoring others.
* Strong technical reputation and customer/supplier relationships.
* Experience managing large, multidisciplinary projects through their full development cycle.
* Expertise in drivetrain software packages such as SMT MASTA, Romax, Creo, UGNX, Catia, Amesim, Recurdyn, Matlab, Altair, and Ansys.
* Ability to generate and manage commercial opportunities successfully.
* Knowledge of consultancy business commercial practices is advantageous.
