This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to one of the water industry's most critical challenges while developing your expertise across data, network operations, and strategic resolution planning. Onsite is part of the South Staffordshire Group – a 3,000-strong organisation behind South Staffs Water, Cambridge Water, and several leading utility support businesses – offering long‑term development and career progression.
We are looking for an experienced Planner to join our growing Pipelines division. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will work closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers, Site Managers and engineering teams to develop and manage resourced programmes across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering projects.
This role plays a key part in ensuring projects are effectively planned, monitored and delivered on time, supporting the successful delivery of an annual programme of up to 30 projects ranging from £50k to £5m in value.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining detailed project programmes, identifying critical path activities, and supporting project teams to mitigate risks and maintain progress across design, procurement, construction and commissioning stages.
The Role
* Develop, maintain and update detailed project programmes using Microsoft Project (Primavera P6 knowledge advantageous).
* Work collaboratively with project delivery teams to plan and coordinate project activities.
* Monitor project progress and identify critical path pinch points, recommending solutions to mitigate delays.
* Support tender submissions by producing logic‑linked construction programmes.
* Provide planning support across multiple projects within the pipelines division.
* Liaise with internal teams, contractors, suppliers and clients to ensure effective programme delivery.
* Produce reports and present programme updates at internal and client meetings.
* Conduct “what-if” scenario planning to support project decision‑making.
* Maintain accurate progress reporting, milestone tracking and programme updates.
* Support risk management processes and identify potential programme impacts.
* Ensure planning outputs comply with company and client management systems.
* Carry out site programme reviews to validate progress where required.
Essential
* Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Planner within civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
* Experience working on clean water main laying, rehabilitation, wastewater or civil engineering projects.
* Strong experience using Microsoft Project (MSP).
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to analyse programme data and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Desirable
* Knowledge of Primavera P6.
* Experience working with NEC or JCT contracts.
* Experience supporting tender planning and programme development.
