Design Technology Technician Location: Walsall / Birmingham Start Date: September 2026 Pay Rate: £110–£120 per day About the Role We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Design Technology Technician to join a thriving secondary school in the Walsall/Birmingham area from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled individual to support a busy and successful Design Technology department. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring lessons run smoothly by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and supporting teachers and students across a range of practical subjects. The school is looking for a reliable and organised technician who has previous experience working within a UK secondary school environment and understands the demands of a practical DT setting. Key Responsibilities Prepare and organise materials, tools, and equipment for Design Technology lessons. Support teaching staff during practical sessions when required. Maintain workshops, classrooms, and storage areas to a high standard. Ensure all equipment is safe, functional, and ready for use. Carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs of tools and machinery. Monitor and manage stock levels, ordering materials when necessary. Support with the preparation of displays, projects, and examination coursework. Ensure health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times. Conduct risk assessments and maintain relevant safety records. Assist with the safe storage and disposal of materials and equipment. Provide technical support across a range of DT disciplines, including Resistant Materials, Product Design, Engineering, Graphics and CAD/CAM where applicable. Requirements Previous experience working as a Design Technology Technician within a UK secondary school. Good understanding of workshop health and safety procedures. Knowledge of a range of DT tools, machinery, and equipment. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Ability to work independently and use initiative.
