Job Summary

Ultrasound in Worcestershire is sonographer led and as a result we are forward looking promoting career development with an appetite for change and improvement.

We welcome applications from sonographers/midwife sonographers who hold a CASE accredited PG Cert/Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent (DMU).

We will consider applications from student sonographers awaiting final exam board confirmation of their CASE accredited Pg Cert in Medical Ultrasound.

We expect a minimum qualification in obstetrics but applications from suitable candidates also qualified in Gynae and/or General Abdominal USS are welcomed.

Your base site would be Worcester however you may be expected to work at any site within the Trust as the service requires. We currently provide an USS service at Evesham Community Hospital & Kidderminster Treatment Centre which forms part of the Worcestershire Community Diagnostic Centre.

All WAHNHST hospitals utilise state of the art Samsung RS8EVO equipment.

All departments cover a wide range of general, obstetric, gynae, some vascular and small parts USS exams.

CPD is encouraged and supported with regular cross county Ultrasound audit meetings and designated e-learning/mandatory training time.

We offer a flexible working week with negotiable hours to suit both you and the department. Participation in our weekend/Bank Holiday ultrasound rota is expected but this is self-rostered with flexible TOIL.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be joining a motivated workforce that welcomes new challenges as we work together to provide the very best care and service for our patients. Qualified Sonographers/Midwife Sonographers with CASE approved qualifications are welcome to apply.

* To regularly undertake and provide comprehensive, independently written reports on, a wide range of ultrasound examinations to a standard acceptable to the service. To draw conclusions from the ultrasound findings and recommend further investigations.
* To communicate highly complex information regarding diagnosis / treatment directly with Clinicians and patients within a multidisciplinary team.
* To give a clear explanation to patients regarding Ultrasound examinations including risks, benefits, accuracy and limitation, in order to gain informed consent within an ethical and moral framework.
* To work within, and adhere to, Standards and Operational Policies relating to the provision of a quality Imaging service. To ensure that these Standards and Operational Policies are adhered to by more junior staff.
* To work within, and contribute to, evidence based protocols and guidelines. When inadequacies in protocols and guidelines are identified, investigate and inform the Lead Sonographer in a timely and appropriate manner.

DBS Checks and Costs

Experience & Qualifications

Essential Experience

* Recent NHS experience undertaking and independently reporting obstetric ultrasound scans to include Mid Trimester and growth scans.
* Recent NHS experience undertaking and reporting Early Pregnancy/viability scans (including TVS).

Desirable Experience

* DQASS qualification for 1st Trimester ultrasound desirable but not essential.
* Experience of undertaking and reporting UAD scans.
* Experience of scanning and independently reporting Gynae Ultrasound scans (including TVS).
* Experience of scanning and independently reporting general abdominal Ultrasound scans.

Essential Qualifications

* UK CASE accredited BSc hon or equivalent qualification in Obstetric Ultrasound as a minimum.
* Demonstrable Ultrasound scanning experience within an NHS Trust (pre or post qualification).
* Current or pending UK Professional Registration (e.g. HCPC, NMC, RCT).
