Head of Operational Excellence and Fire Safety

We have a new opportunity for a Head of Operational Excellence and Fire Safety. We are looking for someone who is solutions focused and can support teams in improving standards across our housing development building sites.

The post holder will act as the primary regional ambassador and lead for quality operations, driving the right-first-time approach and nurturing a 360-degree Quality Assurance model that captures areas of underperformance to mitigate risk, shape future learning and avoid repeated events.

This role supports the business in meeting all required legislation and quality standards by designing processes, managing and consulting on all matters of operational excellence. The role includes regular formal inspections, project management, evaluating learning and risk, developing policy and standard operating procedures, coaching, and acting as a consultant on standards with the team, stakeholders and the supply chain.

The post holder will provide clear leadership, consultancy and management of the untypical groups built environment fire safety obligations across fire remediation, current build and future fire safety policy development. The role demands in-depth knowledge and relevant experience in new homes and construction operational excellence in addition to sound working knowledge of the Building Safety Act and the Building Safety Regulator.

Duties will include:

* Develop and maintain quality-process systems with the team in line with the Quality Assurance, Health and Safety and customer experience frameworks.
* Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on quality activities. Take the lead working with regional teams to promote, educate and drive the untypical operational culture in close collaboration with peers in SHE, Quality and Customer Services.

Key responsibilities of Fire Remediation:

* Identifying and assessing fire safety defects: Conducting thorough inspections of buildings to identify potential fire hazards (e.g., faulty fire doors, inadequate compartmentation, non-compliant cladding).
* Developing and implementing remediation plans: Create detailed plans outlining repairs, upgrades and fire safety measures required to rectify identified issues.
* Managing contractors and overseeing works: Coordinate with qualified contractors to carry out fire remedial works, ensuring work is completed to required standards within the timeframe.
* Ensuring compliance with building regulations and fire safety codes: Ensure remediation works comply with relevant regulations and legislation.
* Communicating with residents and stakeholders: Keep residents and stakeholders informed about remediation progress and address questions or concerns.
* Managing documentation and records: Maintain accurate records of inspections, assessments, remediation works and related correspondence.
* Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems; support the business to meet quality and ESG KPIs within the overall plan.
* Implement relevant procedures required by the Quality Operations framework and Systems to ensure full compliance.
* Update in-house systems and procedures to meet the needs of external bodies.
* Respond to failures and opportunities with containment actions, analysis, and short- and long-term countermeasures.
* Champion a program for continuous improvement in the operational space.
* Update operational quality documentation and share lessons learned from observations and inspections.
* Ensure systems and procedures satisfy all business quality and environmental requirements.

General role responsibilities and tasking:

* Provide standards and operational consultation to construction, technical, safety, customer care teams and contractor trades.
* Educate and mentor others in operational framework, systems and best practice.
* Undertake internal process reviews of operational performance.
* Provide consultation on resolving internal/external operational quality concerns.
* Review and refine operational methods, policies, standards and documentation.
* Report against agreed quality metrics monthly.
* Lead regular meetings with representatives from appropriate departments to plan improvements in operational quality.
* Attend meetings and communicate instructions as required.
* Produce written reports and make presentations within area of expertise.
* Stay up to date on changes affecting operational quality (legislation, building regulations, NHBC / Premier standards) and evolving organisational practices.
* Ensure the function operates in accordance with health, safety and environmental policies; work with the SHE team to conduct risk assessments.

We’re looking for the following skills and experience:

* At least 5 years of experience in the new-build environment in fire safety and operational compliance, in a senior management or executive consultancy capacity.
* MCIOB, equivalent or Degree Level qualification in Built Environment Construction Management or similar.
* Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety (Fire Auditors) or equivalent.
* SSMTS preferred.
