Head of Music - Hemel Hempstead
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head of Music to join a thriving, Ofsted 'Good' Secondary School in Hemel Hempstead on a full-time, permanent basis starting September 2025. This is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate Music educator to lead a dynamic department and contribute to a vibrant school community.
As Head of Music, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering a rich and inspiring music curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to teach Key Stage 5 for the right candidate. You will also lead the department in developing extra-curricular provision, managing performances, and supporting students of all abilities to develop their musical talent and confidence.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the Music department, overseeing curriculum planning, assessment, and resources
* Deliver outstanding Music lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and KS5 where appropriate)
* Promote and manage extra-curricular music including ensembles, choirs, and school productions
* Support and develop students' musical ability and enthusiasm through innovative teaching
* Collaborate with senior leaders and contribute to the wider cultural life of the school
* Line manage departmental staff and lead on department improvement planning
Requirements:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
* Proven UK teaching experience in Music, including departmental or leadership responsibilities
* Enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to obtain)
* Strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for music education
* Excellent leadership, communication, and classroom management skills
