Little Heath School SEND Teacher and PSHE Lead

MPS/UPS + SEN 1 Potential TLR Full time - Start ASAP

Little Heath School is seeking an ambitious and dedicated SEND Teacher with a strong focus on PSHE to join our specialist provision. This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead a curriculum that directly supports independence, emotional wellbeing and Preparation for Adulthood outcomes for pupils with complex needs.

As a specialist provision for pupils aged 11–19 with autism, learning difficulties and complex needs, our curriculum is broad, ambitious and inclusive. It is delivered across three pathway groups: pre-formal, semi-formal and formal with a significant proportion of pupils accessing highly personalised, developmental and regulation-informed provision within the pre-formal pathway. Across all pathways, teaching is aligned to EHCP outcomes and Preparation for Adulthood.

Our practice is underpinned by our Universal Offer: low-arousal environments, structured teaching and visual support, communication that reduces cognitive load, and planned regulation and co-regulation. These four active ingredients are non-negotiable and shape every classroom experience.

The Role

· Undertake the role of Form Tutor / Class Teacher for a complex needs class, delivering a broad and ambitious curriculum beyond PSHE, aligned to EHCP outcomes.

· Design structured, visually supported and cognitively accessible learning reflecting autism-informed pedagogy and our universal practice.

· Embed Preparation for Adulthood strands including independence, community inclusion and emotional resilience across curriculum areas.

· Teach sensitive topics (relationships, consent, puberty, online safety and mental health) in a safeguarding-led and developmentally appropriate manner.

· Implement and contribute to established assessment systems, tracking pupil progress in line with the school’s assessment cycle, curriculum targets and relevant EHCP outcomes.

· Lead the strategic development and quality assurance of PSHE across the school, aligned to the statutory framework and PSHE Association SEND Framework.

Key Responsibilities

· Fulfil the Teachers’ Standards and statutory professional responsibilities, modelling high expectations, ambition and consistent practice within a specialist SEND setting.

· Work within the ethos and policies of Little Heath School, upholding safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection, and demonstrating a strong commitment to autism-informed and inclusive practice.

· Deliver a broad and ambitious curriculum within a complex needs class and lead a class team to ensure high-quality, personalised provision aligned to EHCP outcomes.

· Deliver high-quality, adapted PSHE lessons for learners with complex needs.

· Create and model autism-informed low-arousal, predictable and structured classroom environments.

· Use clear communication, visual supports and structured teaching approaches.

· Support regulation and co-regulation strategies in line with school practice.

· Work collaboratively with therapists, the school nurse, families and external professionals.

About You

· Hold QTS (or equivalent).

· Experience working with autistic pupils with complex needs.

· Demonstrate strong understanding of autism-specific pedagogy including structured teaching and low-arousal practice.

· Show excellent behaviour management rooted in empathy, predictability and high expectations.

· Is reflective, resilient and committed to inclusive education.
