A position is available in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton for a Research Fellow to join the REPAIR study, funded by Wellcome Leap as part of the Missed Vital Sign programme. This ambitious, multidisciplinary project is investigating innovative approaches to diagnosing heavy menstrual bleeding, combining laboratory science with clinical translation to improve outcomes in women's health. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge international research with real potential to transform diagnosis and care in women's health.

The post holder will undertake high-quality laboratory research to develop and test novel diagnostic methods for heavy menstrual bleeding. They will work closely with clinicians, research nurses, and study participants to integrate laboratory and clinical aspects of the project. Responsibilities will include analysing and interpreting data, supporting project management (including accurate record keeping and compliance with ethical approvals), and contributing to dissemination through publications, presentations, and engagement with collaborators.

The successful candidate will also play an active role in fostering a positive and inclusive research environment within the team and the wider university, while collaborating with national and international partners across the Missed Vital Sign programme.

You will have a PhD (or equivalent professional qualification and experience) in biomedical sciences, physiology, reproductive health, or a related discipline, together with laboratory research experience relevant to diagnostic or translational science. Excellent organisational skills, problem-solving ability, and strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with clinical teams and research participants.

Experience in women's health, gynaecology, or haematology research, involvement in clinical or translational studies, and a track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals are desirable.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This position is offered full-time on a fixed-term basis until 31st August 2026 in the first instance, with potential for extension subject to funding. The role is available for immediate start.
