This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse with a specific interest in Children and Young People to work within the Focused Support Team at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH) and Managed Clinical Services, including Starlight Ward at Wythenshawe, the Children's Resource Centre at Trafford, and the Children's Ward at North Manchester.
The Focused Support Team supports high-quality care delivery to children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental health needs within the acute hospital setting. The successful applicant will act as a key advisor across the hospital, providing guidance, leadership, and expertise to ensure both physical and individual needs are met. They will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary professionals, serving as a link between paediatric nursing teams and CAMHS and Learning Disability Teams.
The role involves developing and delivering educational strategies within RMCH/MCS to empower clinical teams to achieve high standards of care for children and young people with mental health, learning disabilities, or neurodiverse needs. Responsibilities include undertaking person-centered assessments, ensuring appropriate risk management and reasonable adjustments, modeling positive behavior plans, and supporting hospital ward staff in their care and management of children and young people.
The post holder will advocate for children and young people with mental health, learning disabilities, or neurodiverse needs and their families, participate in MDT care planning meetings, and work with external agencies to maintain high standards of care. They will also build and deliver staff education and training, mentoring junior staff and students.
