The Featherstone Academy seek an inspiring and ambitious SENDCO to join our academy. This is a new role, joining our committed and established SEND team. We are passionate about providing every pupil with the opportunities to achieve their very best and we are looking for a colleague who shares this passion. This would suit either a fully qualified SENDCO or a candidate currently undertaking the Masters level National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator.
Working closely with our current SENDCO, you will:
* Lead inclusion and the SEND provision in the academy, under the direction of the Principal and in accordance with the aims and objectives of Resilience Multi Academy Trust
* Raise standards of student engagement, attainment and achievement.
* Effectively evaluate the academy's SEND provision and strategically plan for its future development in-line with the Trust's vision.
* Manage the support team within the SEND provision and promote a person-centred, inclusive practice in which the interests and needs of pupils with SEND and/or disabilities are at the heart of all actions.
The Featherstone Academy is a smaller than average school with an inclusive culture and warm ethos, yet we have big ambitions to be a beacon of learning, aspiration and success for our local community. Over the last four years we have enjoyed success with Ofsted, in improving exam results and; our growing reputation in the community has led to an increase in our school PAN. We are part of The Resilience Multi Academy Trust which has a reputation for high expectations for all, an innovative curriculum and excellent staff/student relationships. Colleagues learn and grow alongside our students and feel that they are making a real difference to the lives of those they teach. We do not tolerate bullying, defiance or rudeness, and this has made for a harmonious and safe learning environment for our young people and a supportive environment for staff.
We want our staff to develop their pedagogy in a way that fits their own skills and expertise to benefit their students, but which is rooted in what we know impacts learning. We utilise our Resillience Multi Academy Trust (excellence framework) to accelerate student progress. Teachers make their own judgments about how to engage their students and how to deliver and embed content, while following the department curriculum.
This is a real opportunity for you to make your mark, and as a growing Multi Academy Trust with an excellent reputation and access to high-quality CPD for all, there are always opportunities for career development for ambitious and committed colleagues.

About The Featherstone Academy
The Featherstone Academy
Pontefract Road, Featherstone, Pontefract
West Yorkshire
WF7 5AJ
United Kingdom
At The Featherstone Academy we teach the core personal values of respect, aspiration, and pride.
The Featherstone Academy is an ambitious and aspirational secondary school, which is part of Resilience Multi Academy Trust (RMAT).
We continue to build upon our February 2017 Ofsted grading of being 'Outstanding' for personal development, behaviour and welfare, and overall 'Good', to increase the life chances and opportunities of the students within our community. In 2022, we were judged by Ofsted in a short inspection to have continued to be a 'Good' school.
The Featherstone Academy is an inclusive secondary school, and we also have a Wakefield Education Authority Specialist Provision on site for a number of autistic children who join some of our curriculum with peers of their own age.
With a strong focus on resilience, growth mindset and positive discipline, the RMAT ethos has helped to transform The Featherstone Academy, as well as the lives of students and teachers. These values have created a learning environment in which all students can succeed. This environment is supported by an imaginative and differentiated curriculum in all year groups.
The staff of The Featherstone Academy are committed to ensuring the students who attend the academy are successful and able to achieve their goals, through hard work, recognition of their individual success and a relentless drive to ensure student achievement.
The curriculum instils resilience in our students the moment they enter the school and is continuous through their time with us. Encompassed within this innovative curriculum is our belief in a growth mindset. The belief that intelligence is far from fixed or inherited but an area we can all improve if we work hard and learn from our mistakes.
The Featherstone Academy thrives on the positive relationships with parents and carers that support us and their child's learning. We have unashamedly high expectations of our staff and students and look to promote a school friendly home to nurture and challenge our students.
We are ambitious, aspirational and proud of where we are from. We want to be a beacon of learning, aspiration and success for our local community.
