Job summary
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Healthcare Support Worker to join the team at HMP Garth, a high security Category B male prison located in Leyland. HMP Garth has capacity of around 850 and houses men serving long term and indeterminate sentences. This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations – no two days are ever the same.
Hours
This position is full time working 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis. The rota is:
* Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday
* Week 2 – Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Shifts are 07:30 – 19:45. We have an 8 week rota, and 2 of those weeks include night shifts, working the same as above but 19:45 – 07:30.
Salary
You will receive an annual salary of between £25,557 – £29,723 per annum depending on experience.

Main duties of the job
As our Healthcare Support Worker, your responsibilities will vary. Some of your duties will include:
* Deliver exceptional care to patients, both in the healthcare department and on the wings
* Be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages, phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients’ care
* Support the primary care nursing team with all aspects of care
* Support clinics, including bloods, ECGs, weight, etc.
* Act as a second checker in pharmacy as required
* You will primarily be working within the primary care team, although you may be required to carry out duties in the substance misuse or mental health teams

Our new Healthcare Support Worker will:
* Ideally hold an NVQ Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care, or Care Certificate
* Have experience within phlebotomy – this is highly desirable
* Have experience in a clinical care setting previously – ideally from a hospital or prison setting
* Have clinical experience – venepuncture, ECGs, etc.
* Have a non-judgemental and compassionate approach
