Consultant Paediatrician – Community Child Health
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Paediatrician in Community Child Health with a special interest in Neurodisability. The post offers 10 programmed activities. The South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a motivated and passionate consultant paediatrician. The post is a substantive post; less than full‑time applications would also be welcomed.
Main duties of the role include:
* Delivering population‑based services across South Tyneside and Sunderland.
* Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, special schools, and health centres to bring services to the community.
* Providing comprehensive care for children in areas such as child development, looked‑after children, vulnerable children, adoption and fostering, safeguarding, and neurodisability.
* Contributing to the acute child protection rota and participating in the acute general paediatric rota.
* Taking a lead role within the team, agreed at the time of appointment, based on interests and expertise.
* Engaging in service development, teaching, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Person Specification
Essential
* Primary medical qualification and full GMC registration.
* Active entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility to enter within six months of appointment.
* Completion of a CCT or equivalent in paediatrics.
* Sub‑specialty in Community Child Health, General Paediatrics or neurodisability.
* Demonstrated ability to apply research outcomes to clinical practice.
* Involvement in quality improvement and audit activities.
* Good presentation, teaching and supervisory skills.
* Experience of child protection medical examination and report compilation.
* Knowledge of NHS governance, resource planning and time‑management skills.
* Alignment with the Trust core values and a flexible, committed approach to service delivery.
Desirable
* Published research in refereed journals.
* SPIN accreditation.
* Specialist interest aligned to the department.
* Formal qualification in medical education.
* Management or administrative experience.
