About the role

Here at the Mid Yorkshire Trust an exciting opportunity has arisen for the development of a Consultant Radiographer to become a key role within our General X-ray department within Radiology. We require someone who has excellent organisational and Interpersonal skills and who can continuously improve and help others to do so within our department. This role can be adapted to allow for the transition from a trainee consultant role to a consultant radiographer role following a period of development and preceptorship if required.

The post-holder will possess the BSc in Radiography, or equivalent, with a minimum of 3 years Advanced Practitioner in image reporting. They will provide expert practice in their field of image reporting and be competent in contributing and leading MDT discussions. They will exercise a high degree of professional and personal autonomy, acting as a consultant practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competence, decision making and a knowledge base beyond those associated with conventional Advanced Practitioner roles, there by acting as an expert in their field.

The candidate must be able to self-motivate, and have excellent organisational skills and possess the ability to motivate a team of Advanced Practitioners, and work collaboratively with the Consultant Radiographers, Patient Service Managers and Team leaders within the team.

The role will include taking the lead for Acute and Elective radiology services including the reporting aspects, with a minimum of 60% direct clinical care with the remainder split across specified supporting professional activities (SPA) and other additional NHS responsibilities ensuring all four pillars of practice are maintained.

Informal visits are strongly encouraged.

Main duties

JOB PURPOSE

To support the delivery of the service through developing advanced and expert clinical service to enhance patient care across General Radiography & Dxa radiology.

Support the leadership of the radiographic and wider multidisciplinary team in line with the service vision whilst developing as a consultant radiographer.

Time distributed between clinical and non-clinical duties.

Professional

* To write departmental and implement Trust wide/departmental policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Maintain a professional appearance in line with the Trust dress code

* Maintain professional and courteous working relationships with staff and respect the equality and diversity of each and every person she comes into contact with in the course of her business
* Uphold the privacy and dignity of the patient and respect the equality of patients at all time
* To use advanced clinical judgement to enable independent decision-making.
* To provide expert clinical advice in relation to general radiography radiology and support the multidisciplinary team.
* Act as an ambassador to promote the role of the consultant radiographer in the wider world of general radiography imaging
* Provide clinical and professional leadership and career development for radiographers.
* Provide leadership to radiographers, functioning on a day-to-day basis as a consultant to improve patient care and clinical practice based upon clinical expertise.
* Function as an internal and external consultant in matters relating to general radiography radiology.
* Function as a key member of the radiology team.

2. Key Responsibilities

* To act as an expert practitioner demonstrating advanced clinical competencies and a knowledge base beyond those associated with specialist radiographic roles.
* To function as an autonomous practitioner taking responsibility and accountability for effective care delivery.
* To lead in the establishment of standards and guidelines for best practice.
* To participate/lead in clinical multidisciplinary team meetings.
* To discuss own practice with peers and work effectively as part of the evolving radiology team.
* To have a good working knowledge of the Radiology Information System.
* To input patient details and reports on the computer system.


Key requirements

* DCR(R) or BSc in Radiography
* Masters Degree in Radiography
* Professional Development Portfolio
* Postgraduate qualification in Chest/Visceral Imaging Reporting
* Postgraduate qualification in MSK Imaging reporting
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to work across professional and organisational boundaries internally and externally
* Ability to command national respect

* Comprehensive I.T. skills
* Significant senior experience in Radiography imaging.
