This is an exciting time to join one of the largest Pathology departments in the country. Our new state-of-the-art Pathology building (Centre for Laboratory Medicine on the St. James's University Hospital site) and new Acute Hospital Laboratory (on the Leeds General Infirmary site) are now operational. The Department of Blood Sciences is seeking to recruit experienced and innovative Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haematology to help shape, deliver and improve the service we deliver to our patients.

Job description
Job Summary
As a specialist biomedical scientist you will be a fully competent member of the department. You will perform a wide range of specialist clinical technical investigations, work as part of a team and independently on-call. You will supervise and support junior staff, contribute to the maintenance of ISO15189 accreditation, attend MDT and user meetings, and undertake R&D projects.
* Perform a wide range of specialist clinical technical investigations.
* Work independently on the 24/7 shift rota and on-call duties.
* Supervise and support junior staff within the laboratory.
* Maintain ISO15189 accreditation, QC and EQA authorisation.
* Attend MDT and user meetings.
* Participate in R&D projects and lead initiatives where appropriate.
* Apply professional judgement to complex and difficult situations.
* Organise the tasks of support workers and communicate complex information to colleagues and other organisations.
Key requirements
* Registered with the HCPC and significant Haematology experience.
* Competence in blood film morphology.
* Will be required to participate in the 24/7 shift rota.
* Leadership skills to supervise and support junior staff.
* Knowledge of ISO15189 accreditation and related processes.
* Basic computer skills and use of laboratory and Trust based databases.

* Degree (or equivalent) suitable for HCPC registration.
Experience
* Post registration experience within the speciality.
