UHD Ultrasound Clinical Lead

The closing date is 07 September 2025

We're looking for an experienced, passionate sonographer to support clinical practice in both our general and obstetric ultrasound services across UHD.

As clinical lead, you will combine advanced clinical practice with team leadership, quality assurance, service improvement, and help create a supportive learning environment for trainees, developing the next generation of sonographers.

What We Offer:

* Flexible working patterns to support work/life balance.
* Ongoing CPD opportunities for professional development.

UHD ultrasound services operate from our Royal Bournemouth, Poole, and Christchurch Hospitals, with community diagnostic centres at Health Sciences University and St Mary's Poole.

Main duties of the job

You will act as an expert resource for sonographers and other staff within the ultrasound department.

Working with the ultrasound department managers and ultrasound service manager, you will produce guidelines and protocols to ensure safe, efficient, patient-centered care; developing and delivering audits to ensure compliance.

You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating training across our department, including assessing the existing knowledge and skills of the workforce.

Providing professional leadership to the ultrasound staff, setting standards for clinical delivery, and promoting inclusive, compassionate behaviors across teams.

You will participate in the clinical workload in both Obstetric and General Ultrasound for 50% of the week.

Supporting student sonographers throughout their training and liaising with training establishments to ensure quality educational experiences.

About us

Our values define who we are as #TeamUHD. They underpin everything we do, shaping how we treat patients, visitors, and colleagues. UHD is investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed following merger and the New Hospital Programme. Some services may move sites temporarily or long-term. Interviewers will be happy to discuss these changes during interviews.

Please note, if the role or service relocates, employees will not be eligible for excess mileage reimbursement. Travel from home to the new work base will be considered a normal commute. Other changes will be managed according to Trust or national terms.

Job responsibilities

Be a visible, accessible, and assertive point of contact for staff, supporting daily scanning and report writing for various ultrasound examinations.

Plan and promote a comprehensive CPD program for all ultrasound staff.

Ensure departmental policies and procedures support staff in all aspects of ultrasound work.

Help develop and implement an annual training strategy to meet service KPIs.

Collaborate with department managers to produce the annual Learning Needs Analysis, aligning with service development across UHD.
