UHD Ultrasound Clinical Lead

We're looking for an experienced, passionate sonographer to support clinical practice in both our general and obstetric ultrasound services across UHD.
As clinical lead, you will combine advanced clinical practice with team leadership, quality assurance, service improvement, and help create a supportive learning environment for trainees, developing the next generation of sonographers.

UHD ultrasound services operate from our Royal Bournemouth, Poole, and Christchurch Hospitals, with community diagnostic centres at Health Sciences University and St Mary's Poole.
Main duties of the job
You will act as an expert resource for sonographers and other staff within the ultrasound department.
Working with the ultrasound department managers and ultrasound service manager, you will produce guidelines and protocols to ensure safe, efficient, patient-centered care; developing and delivering audits to ensure compliance.
You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating training across our department, including assessing the existing knowledge and skills of the workforce.
Providing professional leadership to the ultrasound staff, setting standards for clinical delivery, and promoting inclusive, compassionate behaviors across teams.
You will participate in the clinical workload in both Obstetric and General Ultrasound for 50% of the week.
Supporting student sonographers throughout their training and liaising with training establishments to ensure quality educational experiences.

Job responsibilities
Be a visible, accessible, and assertive point of contact for staff, supporting daily scanning and report writing for various ultrasound examinations.
Plan and promote a comprehensive CPD program for all ultrasound staff.
Ensure departmental policies and procedures support staff in all aspects of ultrasound work.
Help develop and implement an annual training strategy to meet service KPIs.
Collaborate with department managers to produce the annual Learning Needs Analysis, aligning with service development across UHD.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc Radiography or equivalent qualification
* HCPC registration or equivalent
* NT accreditation/license
* Experience in policy writing and approval processes
Experience
* Significant experience at band 7 level
* Experience in main ultrasound areas including paediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, abdominal, pelvic, and small parts
* Experience working with clinical leads to develop services
* Experience conducting audits and creating action plans
* Recent NHS experience
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
Skills
* Understanding of local and national guidance on medical ultrasound, obstetrics, and maternity ultrasound
* Knowledge of clinical governance
* Effective time management and ability to handle work pressures
* Strong document proof-reading and control skills
* Ability to teach and mentor students and registrars
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Commitment to maintaining high technical and theoretical skills through CPD
* Experience with Document Management Systems like Q-pulse
