Education Mental Health Trainee Practitioner

We are looking to recruit 4 Education Mental Health Practitioners in training to be part of a dynamic forward‑thinking innovative team that works in schools and colleges.
About the MHST
The East Riding Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is part of a national rollout and has delivered successful results in the East Riding since September 2022. The MHST supports schools, colleges and the wider system through advice, support, consultation, whole school approaches, staff training and targeted interventions using CBT.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Access university for two days a week to undertake learning through face‑to‑face and online lectures.
* Under supervision for two days a week hold a small caseload to deliver outcome‑focused evidence‑based interventions for children, young people and families experiencing mild to moderate emotional and mental health needs.
* Work in service for the remaining three days of the week, using newly developed skills, knowledge and understanding supported by supervisors and other qualified EMHPs.
* Attend all university‑based taught and self‑study days over the year as required by the education provider.
* Use a vehicle for work purposes and be able to travel where required; not all locations may be reached by public transport.
* On successful completion, progress from band 4 to band 5 salary.
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Knowledge of educational systems in England
* Knowledge of a range of Children’s Universal/Targeted interventions and support services and Specialist Mental Health Services
* Good understanding of child development and children’s mental health at diploma level, including mental health legislation
* Knowledge and understanding of the national development and local implementation of the Mental Health Support Teams
* Undergraduate degree or equivalent level 6 qualification, or equivalent experience demonstrating ability to undertake academic study at post‑graduate level
* Demonstrated understanding of issues related to children and young people and their impact on mental health
Experience
* High standards in written communication
* Experience working within the identified service area or experience of coping with children’s emotional health and mental wellbeing needs, or as an active carer
* Experience of working with young people
Skills
* Effective inter‑personal communication skills
* Ability to study successfully at the undergraduate level
* Good communication skills with young people
