Job Description
The Environment Agency is looking for a Marine Water Quality Officer to support evidence‑based decisions across key water quality areas. The role is based within Operations Catchment Services and involves analysing data, modelling, and communicating findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Two positions are available – one permanent and one fixed term (6 months).
Responsibilities
* Review complex reports and summarise key information for decision‑making.
* Interpret monitoring data and model outputs to support environmental protection.
* Summarise and communicate technical work, escalating challenges when needed.
* Use data to inform water quality models.
* Provide timely answers to technical questions for internal and external stakeholders.
* Build strong relationships across a dispersed team and with external partners.
* Participate in incident response and incident management duties, with full training and support.
* Apply sound records management principles.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g. environmental science, marine biology, chemistry, engineering).
* Experience in data analysis and familiarity with modelling software.
* Knowledge of water quality and marine environment (desirable).
* Proficiency with tools such as Excel, Access, R, Power‑BI, GIS and specialist packages (e.g. Mike, Cormix).
* Experience communicating technical information to non‑technical audiences.
* Comfortable working in a virtual team and travelling for occasional national meetings.
* Working towards professional membership is an advantage.
Additional Information
The role offers flexible arrangements and an inclusive incident‑management objective in your development plan. Training and mentoring will be provided. The job base is in the EA Office; however, the role is national and the working location is flexible/hybrid.
