Occupational Therapist - Neurosciences at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust
Job Summary
Fixed‑term 11 month Band 6 Occupational Therapist role covering maternity leave. Full‑time (1 WTE) with primary focus on neurosurgery and neurology, with links to hyper‑acute stroke, stroke rehabilitation and spinal services. Provides senior clinical and operational leadership alongside existing senior therapists within the Neurosciences team.
Responsibilities
* Deliver specialist neuro‑specific assessments and goal‑directed treatments across the breadth of the Neurosciences team.
* Plan and coordinate multi‑therapy discharge pathways for neurological patients.
* Provide senior clinical leadership and support to the wider therapeutics department.
* Work a 7‑day service roster, including weekends and bank holidays.
* Contribute to audit, research and service development initiatives.
* Participate in regular clinical supervision and peer support.
Qualifications & Essential Eligibility
* Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
* Current HCPC registration.
* Postgraduate experience in an acute hospital setting with neurological patients.
* Experience managing a diverse caseload, including physical, mental health and multi‑pathology conditions.
* Experience fitting a range of therapeutic equipment.
* Experience working with support staff and in multidisciplinary teams.
* Evidence of continuous professional development.
* Ability to independently manage patient caseload.
Desirable Skills
* Supervisory experience with staff or students.
* Teaching experience for therapy staff or students.
* Emerging leadership skills.
Working Details
Band: 6
1. Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per year (or pro‑rata).
2. Contract type: Fixed term (11 months)
3. Pattern: Full‑time, part‑time options available.
4. Location: University Hospital Southampton, Tremona Road, Southampton, SO16 6YD
