We are offering this role on a part time or full time basis (0.7 – 1 FTE negotiable) and fixed term.
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the University remains agile, responsive, and aligned with its strategic goals, we have undertaken a review of our Executive Group's structure. This review has led to the creation of a new senior leadership role: Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation & Impact (PVC RI&I).
Serving on our Executive Group, the role will play a pivotal part in providing strategic leadership and supporting the Vice Chancellor and President in delivering the University's mission and long-term strategy.
Reporting to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the PVC RI&I will work collaboratively across the institution, partnering with executive colleagues, Directors of Professional Services, and Heads of School.
The PVC RI&I will navigate and resolve complex challenges, interpreting the evolving internal and external landscape to shape relevant, forward-looking policy and institutional direction.
As PVC (RI&I) your key responsibilities will include:
* Provide strategic leadership for research and innovation, to expand provision across the University.
* Provide strategic and academic leadership, direction and support to academic schools developing and building effective strategies including supporting effective planning, budgetary and staffing controls, and maximising performance to all KPIs.
* Identify key research areas for investment that showcase the University's strengths, achieve global impact, and strengthen Kent's research profile and reputation.
* Chair the REF Steering Group to advance the University's position in national research assessments.
Success in this role requires:
* A visionary leader with a proven track record in research leadership, strategic thinking, and collaborative engagement.
* Ability to relate to, engage with, and command the confidence of senior colleagues in international, national and regional organisations.
* A successful record in developing effective partnerships to support research and knowledge exchange.
* Knowledge and experience of research assessment exercises.
* Experience in academic professorial and leadership roles, underpinned by a strong academic track record, an international research reputation, and a proven history of securing external research funding.
