Cancer Training Lead

We're looking for a knowledgeable and motivated Cancer Standards Training Lead to join our Cancer Services team and play a key role in delivering high‑quality cancer care across North Cumbria.
This role will lead the validation of cancer pathways in line with Cancer Waiting Times (CWT) guidance, ensuring pathways are accurate, complete and compliant with national standards. You will use your extensive knowledge of CWT guidance and cancer tracking to review patient pathways, identify discrepancies and take action to resolve issues, supporting the delivery of timely and effective care for patients.
Additionally, you will design and deliver a comprehensive training programme for MDT coordinators, cancer trackers and wider teams. You will act as the central expert in this area, providing oversight, assurance and consistency in how cancer pathways are managed and validated across all tumour groups.
You will also play a key role in improving data quality, strengthening processes and embedding best practice, helping to ensure the Trust meets national cancer performance standards.
Main duties
* Lead the validation of cancer pathways in line with CWT guidance, ensuring accuracy, completeness and compliance with national standards.
* Use specialist knowledge of cancer tracking and CWT rules to identify, investigate and resolve pathway discrepancies.
* Develop, deliver and continuously improve a comprehensive cancer training programme for MDT coordinators, trackers and wider staff.
* Assess staff competency and ensure all team members are trained and compliant with current and updated guidance.
* Provide expert advice and guidance on CWT standards to clinical and non-clinical teams.
* Monitor and improve data quality and pathway management, supporting achievement of national cancer performance targets.
* Develop and maintain training materials, standard operating procedures and competency frameworks.
* Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to share best practice and drive service improvement.
Qualifications
* Degree level education or equivalent experience.
* Management certificate or equivalent experience.
* Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent.
* Relevant qualification in training and education.
Experience
* Significant experience in cancer tracking and applying CWT guidance.
* Experience of change management.
* Experience of people management.
* Experience in formulating policies, procedures and report writing.
* Experience in the design and delivery of training courses and documentation.
* Experience of monitoring and developing others.
Knowledge
* Demonstrate specialist knowledge of cancer services.
* Comprehensive knowledge of cancer waits guidance.
* Comprehensive knowledge of COSD requirements.
* Working knowledge of national cancer targets and their implementation.
* Knowledge of current issues in healthcare/cancer services.
Skills
* Good motivational and organisational skills.
* Ability to communicate complex topics relating to cancer to trainees of all levels.
* Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
* Presentation skills at local and regional level.
