This is a full-time role for a Criminal Defence Duty Solicitor based in Stafford.
You will handle a busy and varied criminal caseload, representing clients at the police station, Magistrates’ Court and beyond. This is a hands‑on role where you will be trusted to take ownership of your files while being fully supported by an experienced and driven team.
Your day‑to‑day will include:
* Attending police stations under the Duty Solicitor Scheme
* Advising clients during interview and throughout the investigation stage
* Managing cases from first instruction through to conclusion
* Advocacy in the Magistrates’ Court
* Preparing cases for Crown Court where required
* Drafting applications, statements and legal documents
* Ensuring Legal Aid compliance and accurate file management
* Maintaining clear, consistent communication with clients at all stages
What We’re Looking For
* Qualified Solicitor with a valid practising certificate in England and Wales
* Accredited Duty Solicitor with a valid Police Station (PS) PIN
* Strong background in criminal defence work
* Confident police station representative and court advocate
* Ability to manage a demanding caseload with accuracy and control
* Calm under pressure with sound judgement in fast‑moving situations
* Strong client care skills with a practical, no‑nonsense approach to advice
