UnBarred Brewery is an independent craft brewery based in Worthing, making modern, flavour-forward beer for our taproom in Brighton, a growing pub estate, and wholesale accounts across the South East. We brew everything from sessionable hazy pales to bold limited releases — always with intent, always with quality at the centre.
We're a small, ambitious team and the brewery is growing. This is a real opportunity to keep developing your brewing alongside experienced brewers who care deeply about the product.
The role
We're looking for an Assistant Brewer with commercial brewing experience to join our team in Worthing. Working under our Lead Brewer and Head Brewer, you'll support every part of the brewing operation — brewing, packaging, cellaring, and everything in between.
This is a hands‑on role for someone who already knows their way around a commercial brewery and is looking for the right place to grow. You'll have plenty of room to develop into a fully‑fledged Brewer over time — the team is small and the path is real.
Working pattern
Today the brewery runs Monday–Friday with brew‑day flexibility for early starts and the occasional longer day when production demands it. As we scale we'll be moving to structured shift patterns — happy to talk through what that will look like and how you'd factor in.
What you'll do
* Support the Lead Brewer on brew days — mashing, lautering, boiling, knockout
* Cellar work — temperature checks, dry‑hopping, transfers, fermentation monitoring
* Yeast handling — pitching, harvesting, basic management
* Cleaning and CIP across the brewery to schedule
* Stock and ingredient receiving and put‑away
* Help with site maintenance, deliveries, and the general work of a small brewery
* Get stuck in across the whole operation — no two days are the same
What we're looking for
* Commercial brewing experience — you've worked in a production brewery, not just at home
* Working knowledge of mash, boil, fermentation and packaging fundamentals
* Comfortable on a brew day — you know what's normal and what isn't
* Physically fit and able to lift 30‑litre kegs on a daily basis — this is a hands‑on, manual role
* Reliable, punctual, methodical — small breweries reward consistency
* Good attention to detail (brewing punishes shortcuts)
* Willing to learn, ask questions, and follow process
* Comfortable with early starts and occasional longer days when production demands — and open to a shift pattern when we move to one
* Canning or kegging line experience
* Yeast harvesting / propagation experience
* Forklift licence
* IBD, Sunderland, Heriot‑Watt or similar qualifications
* Strong palate / sensory background
* Experience with hazy / modern hop‑forward styles
Who you are
You care about doing things right, not just doing things fast. You're the kind of person who asks why a SOP says what it says, not just what step is next. You take pride in turning out beer you'd happily order at the bar.
What we offer
* Hands‑on training and progression — a real path to Brewer / Senior Brewer over time
* Direct working relationship with the Lead Brewer and Head Brewer
* 28 days holiday including bank holidays
* Monthly beer allowance
* Great south‑coast location — easy commute from Brighton, Chichester and the wider Sussex coast
