Housing Officer
Permanent, Grade C – £35,412 to £44,075, 36.5 hours per week.
Only available to Birmingham City Council employees, including those under a S188 (Priority Movers and Lateral Movers).
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the City Housing Directorate of Birmingham City Council. As one of the largest landlords with a retained housing stock, we deliver a range of services across the city and work in partnership with our communities to provide well‑managed homes and neighbourhoods.
This role will be based in the Central and North parts of the city, reporting to the Housing Manager. Flexibility to respond to demand across the entire area when called upon is essential.
Key responsibilities:
* Supervise Neighbourhood Visiting Officers on a daily basis, responding to emergency situations that arise.
* Manage staff duties including case reviews, performance management, setting targets and priorities, one‑to‑one meetings, appraisals, sickness monitoring, return‑to‑work interviews, risk assessments, attendance, annual leave, health and safety.
* Identify training needs for supervised staff with your manager and develop strategies to meet those needs.
* Deal with emergency situations such as water leaks in tower blocks, gas forced entries and safe‑and‑well checks.
* Respond to tenant concerns to find the best possible solutions, working with partner agencies on safeguarding and vulnerable tenants.
Required qualifications and experience:
* Relevant experience in housing and problem‑solving skills.
* Effective communication with stakeholders and ability to hold partners to account.
* Experience collaborating with partner agencies on safeguarding and working with vulnerable tenants.
* A full valid driving licence.
