Ten10Talent have partnered a secondary SEMH school in Newhaven, East Sussex. We are seeking a confident, resilient and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to join our inclusive and ambitious academy in Newhaven, East Sussex. This is a full-time, term-time role starting immediately – ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people facing barriers to education.
This role is both challenging and highly rewarding, offering the opportunity to positively shape the lives of students with additional needs.
About the Role:
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups who present with a range of behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. Our students come from diverse family backgrounds and may face challenges both inside and outside the classroom.
You'll be part of a dedicated Behaviour Support Team, working collaboratively to manage challenging behaviour and implement restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
You'll Support Students With:
* SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
* Autism and associated communication difficulties
* Behaviour linked to past trauma or adverse childhood experiences
* Low self-esteem, anxiety, or difficulties with emotional regulation
Key Responsibilities:
* Build trusted relationships with students, helping them engage in learning and school life
* Deliver 1:1 mentoring and small group sessions
* Support de-escalation and behaviour interventions in and out of class
* Collaborate with teachers, pastoral leaders, SENCO and parents
* Maintain records of progress, incidents and support strategies
* Be a positive role model and advocate for every young person you work with
What We're Looking For:
* No prior school experience required – but confidence is key
* Experience working with young people in any setting (youth work, coaching, care, mentoring etc.)
* Confident managing challenging behaviour and remaining calm under pressure
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* Resilience, empathy and a problem-solving mindset
* A genuine desire to help young people grow and succeed
