School Nurse/Medical Officer required 5 days per week (10:00 to 16:00) term time only.

This is a fixed term 12 month contract covering Maternity Leave.

Job Purpose:

To provide nursing care to the pupils, staff and visitors in the event of accidents and injuries.

To provide preventative health services to ensure the optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth of the pupils at Sevenoaks Prep school.

To promote and act in accordance with the ethos of Sevenoaks Prep's way of life, its aims and objectives.

Have safeguarding of children as their priority.

To support the teaching staff where possible by offering their services in the field of health education.

Responsible to:

The Bursar, with whom you will meet regularly providing advice, feedback and information as required.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

To promote and protect the optimal health status of children within Sevenoaks Prep School.

Administer first aid and care of pupils referred by staff or self-referred until they are able to return to lessons or are passed into the care of a parent, guardian, doctor, hospital etc and accurately recording all visits and treatment/advice given.

Contacting parents as appropriate, ensuring that thorough records are kept of the conversations and any action taken.

Take pupils via taxi or ambulance to hospital where required.

To interpret and initiate referrals on the health status of students to parents and school personnel, or community health resources for intervention, remediation and follow-through.

To provide ongoing health and well being counselling with pupils, parents and staff.

Plan and implement school health management protocols, to ensure that the school is adequately covered in this area.

Develop procedures and provide for emergency nursing/first aid management for injuries/illness.

Keep records of all those members of the teaching staff who are first aid trained and ensure training is up to date, including their own. To include the emergency use of Epipens and Asthma control.

Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases, liaising between community NHS School Nurses regarding any government vaccination programmes, which directly affects the pupils of Sevenoaks Prep School

Being available to staff leading school educational visits to offer advice, training and information regarding individual pupil's medication.

Ensuring First Aid Kits around school are monitored and are restocked. Supplying First Aid Kits for educational visits, sports fixtures and other school events as needed.

To provide health education where necessary, actively participating in the delivery of lessons as part of the curriculum.

Manage all pupils that they are made aware of, who suffer any food intolerance or major allergies, keeping written care plans up to date and pupil emergency medication within date code.

To be responsible for writing and reviewing medical healthcare plans for pupils with more complex health needs and sharing these appropriately.

To take personal responsibility for continued professional development keeping up to date with current trends in nursing and of literature in the field of school health and ensuring their own relevant qualifications and training are up to date.

Liaise with colleagues, working flexibility to support each other and working as a team.

Take part in wider school events, plays, recitals, trips and fund raising activities that benefit the wider school community.

Personal Specification:

· RGN or RSCN/RN Qualification or equivalent, and registration with the NMC or alternatively registered with HCPC to practice as a paramedic.

· Qualified to administer emergency first aid and early year's first aid (refresher training provided).

· Experience within the field of school nursing (desirable) or emergency response.

· An enthusiastic and versatile team player.

· Have excellent communication skills, with pupils, colleagues and parents.

· Have excellent organisational and administrative skills and be able to use ICT effectively

· Be able to work under pressure and be self-motivated

· Have a confident, warm and caring manner, able to respond sensitively to pastoral issues

· Have a smart professional appearance

The school is committed to the safeguarding of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening including checks with past employers and DBS.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 12 months

Pay: £25,000.00-£26,000.00 per year
