SRG is seeking a temporary Institute Manager for a university in London.
The Institute Manager collaborates closely with the Institute Director to fulfill responsibilities and maintains strong relationships with the Faculty of Brain Sciences Operations Director and other Central Professional Services units.
The role involves overseeing the Institute’s operational support services, including finance, IT, HR, biological and histology services, health & safety, and facilities management.
Responsibilities include:
1. Leading the professional services, technical, and administrative functions to ensure efficient, responsive, and professional support for research, education, and enterprise activities.
2. Managing the Institute’s budget and resources to optimize operations within financial policies.
3. Supporting the Institute Director in strategic planning and overseeing Institute performance.
4. Coordinating with business partners and service leads to meet service needs at various organizational levels.
5. Ensuring compliance with regulations and policies.
Operational Management:
1. Leading the professional services and technical teams, managing workloads, resources, and training.
2. Providing high-quality operational services across all sites.
3. Ensuring effective governance and monitoring performance against goals.
4. Overseeing facilities management, including space planning and estates projects.
Strategic Development:
1. Advising on strategic objectives and supporting the development of Institute policies.
2. Leading budgeting processes and preparing financial reports.
Financial and Resource Management:
1. Ensuring adherence to policies and effective financial management.
2. Supporting grant and contract administration and compliance.
Human Resources:
1. Managing HR services, recruitment, staff development, and diversity initiatives.
2. Conducting appraisals and supporting staff training.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Proven senior management experience in higher education or similar environment.
* Strong financial management skills and experience with research funding.
* Educational background to degree level, preferably PhD in a scientific discipline.
* Experience in project management, change management, and working with diverse partners including NHS.
* Knowledge of research governance, employment law, and HR policies.
