Overview
We run a popular Community Centre and Support Hub in a low-income neighbourhood of Esher close to Sandown Racecourse. We develop and host a range of community projects to meet the needs of local people.
What difference will you make?
As part of our Trustee board you will have a real opportunity to offer your skills to support and shape our work and strategic direction and to ensure the long term viability of the charity. This is a vital role, which will ensure we can continue our support for the Lower Green community and is now firmly on the radar of Elmbridge Borough Council and other organisations. This is an exciting, but challenging, time for our charity and we would love you to be a part of it.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people with a range of skills and experience but most important is a desire to use what you can offer to support people in the local community. We are keen to hear from anyone with leadership, financial, HR or administrative skills who can help us develop our strategy, risk management and business planning.
What will you be doing?
We need to increase and strengthen our Board of Trustees to provide strategic direction and governance as we develop and grow. We are looking for people with a heart for supporting those in our local community who may be struggling. Although a small charity we can have a huge impact on the lives of people we serve. We adopt an asset-based approach to what we do, focussing on what people have to offer rather than their needs. In 2011 Lower Green was selected for the NESTA Neighbourhood Challenge project together with the Community Foundation for Surrey. The Community Support Hub and other projects that we have set up since the pandemic are a direct result of the skills and training our Project Manager and Centre Manager gained from that time. In 2021 we took on the lease of the Lower Green Community Centre from Elmbridge Borough Council and have built the Centre into a thriving support hub. We are looking to increase our Trustee board as we navigate the uncharted waters of Local Government Reorganisation in Surrey.
