Position Overview
Title: Gas Turbine Senior Stress Engineer
Salary range: £65,000 to £80,000 per annum
Location: Burton on Trent, Glasgow, Bristol, Gloucester, Leatherhead, Manchester, Plymouth (flexible hybrid working)
Closing date: 25th January (may close earlier if sufficient applications received)
Responsibilities
* Assess the structural integrity of gas turbines using advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods.
* Conduct strength, fatigue (low‑cycle and high‑cycle), creep, and defect‑tolerance assessments of safety‑critical parts.
* Develop bespoke software tools to accelerate or deepen component analysis and reduce conservatism.
* Lead and deliver projects across the Frazer‑Nash portfolio for defence, energy and transport sectors.
* Interact with customers to understand requirements, develop approaches, and deliver insights.
* Provide technical guidance, mentor junior engineers and support service development.
* Support project delivery governance and contribute to strategy and capability advancement.
Qualifications
* Degree in engineering or equivalent.
* Strong technical knowledge in mechanical/structural engineering.
* In-depth experience with advanced FEA (cracked‑body modelling, material non‑linearities, authoring user sub‑routines) using Abaqus, Ansys or SC03.
* Proven experience in strength, fatigue, creep and fracture assessments.
Desirable Experience
* Experience in a technical consultancy environment.
* Experience in business development and building client relationships.
* Experience in project management and leading large/multi‑disciplinary projects.
* Experience in delivering complex technical work in a commercial environment.
Pre‑employment screening and UK National Security Vetting clearance are required due to the nature of Frazer‑Nash Consultancy work.
