Dimensions and roles: Provide advice and support to all employees to enable the organisation to eliminate or reduce adverse impacts on the environment resulting from organisational activities, maintain a healthy and safe workplace, support the implementation of the HSMS and EMS, and support the HSE team.
Role Purpose
To support Sumitomo Electric UK Power Cables to establish and maintain environmental and HSE management policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and implementing best practices. This role involves regular engagement with employees to achieve and maintain exemplary environmental behaviours and promote excellent HSE attitudes.
Key Accountabilities
* Support the development and maintenance of the EMS and HSMS, and advise managers on system implementation.
* Manage communication and actively engage employees on HSE matters, leading environmental initiatives.
* Promote open reporting of HSE incidents, near misses, hazards and good behaviours to drive continuous improvement.
* Advise Department Managers on environmental assessment planners and regulatory requirements.
* Carry out environmental monitoring and collate data for internal improvement and statutory reporting.
* Compile information with the HSE Administrator & Analyst for internal and external reporting.
* Conduct environmental audits per annual schedule; produce reports and track corrective actions.
* Develop and deliver in‑house environmental training; assist in selecting external training providers.
* Attend meetings to provide HSE advice as directed by the HSE Manager.
* Assist investigations for environmental incidents, creating reports and tracking actions.
* Provide support to other members of the HSE Team as needed.
Essential Knowledge / Skills / Experiences
* Level 5 Environmental qualification.
* Ability to plan & work effectively with minimal supervision.
* Ability to engage with employees across the organisation to build relationships and trust.
* Effective communication of environmental legislative requirements and recommendations for compliance.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Good teamwork skills.
* Commitment to professional standards & continuous environmental performance improvement.
* Initiative and proactive action.
* Maintaining high work standards.
* Problem identification, analysis, and solution skills.
Preferred Knowledge / Skills / Experiences
* Health and Safety qualification Level 3 or above.
* Previous experience in a manufacturing related role.
* Knowledge of root cause analysis tools and investigation techniques.
* Experience using HSE software.
