Here at Fortem we’re recruiting for a Data & Insights Principal to join our IT team.
This is fantastic opportunity for someone with hands on data modelling and PowerBI experience who wants to take the lead on setting out a future Data & Insights Strategy for a leading social housing property solutions provider that helps us to turn data into trusted insights that drive improved efficiency and supports better decisions at all levels for our business, customers and clients.
This role will can be based in Birmingham, Sheffield or Hitchin, depending on which office is closer for you.
The Company
Fortem Solutions are a nationwide business specialising in the Social Housing sector. We provide Repairs & Maintenance, Retrofit, Capital Works and Decarbonisation workstreams within Local Authorities and Housing Associations.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Creating and delivering a Data & Insights Strategy which enables tangible improvements in operational and commercial performance
• Delivering actionable insights that improve KPI performance and support strategic decision‑making both within the company and for our clients
• Be the senior data advocate driving improvements in data quality and literacy across the company
• Create and own a Data & Insights Vision for Fortem aligned to the company ambitions with a supporting delivery strategy and roadmap
• Understand business and client challenges to provide clear, meaningful narratives that support decision‑making
• Lead creation and ongoing improvement of user friendly, intuitive dashboards and reports, including internal and external KPIs, that maximise our operational and commercial performance.
• Define and embed a data governance framework to increase data quality and literacy
• Work with operational, commercial, and strategic stakeholders to understand reporting needs and define requirements
• Explore emerging tools and technologies—including Fabric and Microsoft AI Foundry, to ensure Fortem continue to have a modern data engineering & analytics ecosystem.
What You Will Need
• Experience of creating and implementing strategic data initiatives
• Demonstrable experience of managing internal Data & Insights resources
• Proven ability to translate data insights into business actions to all levels of non‑technical audiences
• Strong Power BI, SSRS and analytics skills
• Ability to translate complex data into strategic insight for executive and non-technical audience
• Ability to design and implement semantic data models and relational structures
• Familiarity with data governance, data security and handling sensitive data
• Ability to analyse business problems and propose data-driven solutions
• Ability to challenge data quality issues and influence corrective action
• Strong communication, stakeholder, and presentation skills to stakeholders of all levels
• Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise multiple demands
• Experience of creating and implementing Data & Insights strategies
• SQL and Microsoft Fabric experience
• Knowledge of Azure Data Services and cloud-based analytics.
• Exposure to predictive analytics, forecasting, or advanced modelling
• Experience within the social housing or property maintenance sector
• Experience with DevOps / Git for version control of BI assets
• Knowledge of master data management practices
• Experience of managing external Data & Insights resources
