Overview
An on-call firefighter is a paid person employed by the fire and rescue service who is on call to respond to a range of emergencies and to engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs, until their pager sounds – then they become professional firefighters. The work is often described as part‑time, but on-call firefighters are trained and experienced on the front line, saving lives and protecting people and community assets. On-call firefighters come from all areas of the community and may be at home, in full or part‑time employment, self‑employed, studying, or not currently employed. They are dedicated individuals who give their time to assist the fire and rescue service and help protect their communities. The role can be demanding, but it offers the opportunity to make a real contribution. You will form close working relationships with other team members, essential when dealing with emergencies and enhanced by participation in community events.

You do not need previous experience as we provide a comprehensive training programme.
