Job Description
As a Senior HVDC Product Specialist, you will work across the Engineering Delivery function, NPI, Control & Protection, and Product Care, reporting directly to the Head of Control and Protection Verification & Validation.
This role includes developing department talent, managing engineering processes, providing technical guidance and mentoring, driving consistent design practices and common global processes for project implementation, and delivering technical solutions that meet the needs of NPI, Product Care, and Project Delivery.
Essential Responsibilities
* Providing strategic and tactical direction for verification and validation of HVDC Control and Protection System in collaboration with Grid and HVDC technology groups.
* Establishing processes to assess, review, and record testing needs and boundaries of each project to ensure the control system is verified to the maximum extent possible before leaving the factory.
* Leading the generation of plans, procedures, and specifications for integration system tests, full system tests, and factory acceptance tests, as well as commissioning tests at site.
* Developing, maintaining, and preparing test management plans and solutions.
* Ensuring requirements are SMART, testable, and incorporated from the requirements phase.
* Coordinating HVDC testing and validation process steps from lab testing, factory system testing, and site system testing, leading to customer acceptance.
* Maintaining clear oversight of the HVDC NTI‑NPI‑Project life cycles, de‑risking product development by defining testing needs.
* Providing technical validation of processes and test specifications.
* Driving continuous improvement in collaboration with other HVDC Control & Protection engineering teams.
* Ensuring sufficient de‑risking in product plans to avoid quality problems from new technologies.
* Enforcing engineering discipline and processes across work tasks, adhering to company policies and quality procedures.
* Reviewing the verification and validation department’s skills, identifying gaps, and ensuring training, guidance, and mentoring of engineers are in place.
* Serving as approver for technical reviews and quality gates/project milestones.
* Supporting the new technology IP strategy to identify opportunities for new IP development.
* Communicating with customers to define quality and testing expectations from project kick‑off to final sign‑off.
* Representing in industry working groups as a key content contributor.
Qualifications & Requirements
* Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or related field.
* Significant experience in power generation, system design, development, and operation of control systems.
* Demonstrable technical leadership experience.
* Experience with HVDC Control Systems.
* Competence in HVDC control, protection, and sequencing strategy.
* Competence with PSCAD/MATLAB‑SIMULINK and RTDS applications.
* Competence in HVDC dynamic performance studies.
* Proven technical leadership in a complex system engineering development environment.
* Knowledge of control and protection cubicle circuit diagrams, field cabling, protection relays, HV/MV/LV switchgear, IEDs, and distributed control systems.
* Knowledge of test‑driven design techniques (e.g., CI/Continuous Integration, unit testing, automated regression testing).
* Knowledge of requirements management.
* Knowledge of change control and issue tracking (e.g., CCB, Jira).
* Excellent communication skills with fluency in English.
