Overview
Thrive Oldham are recruiting on behalf of our well established client in the Merthyr area for an Engineering Quality Manager. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for planning and coordinating projects, managing, coaching and leading a varied group of engineers, developing strategies to enhance innovation, managing budgets, implementing technical standards, ensuring successful project execution, overseeing equipment maintenance, ensuring all site services adhere to regulated compliance, and promoting a safety‑first culture within the process engineering and plant maintenance departments.
Principal Responsibilities
* Lead and develop the existing engineering team, sharing knowledge and experience through coaching and mentoring, and leading by example through consistent project management. (30%)
* Create a safe and wellbeing environment for both the team and processes, ensuring TPM, compliance and basic equipment measures/processes are followed on time every time. (20%)
* Promote innovation to enhance future growth, share new ideas for continuous improvement, and engage with operations to develop lean processes. (30%)
* Develop a robust problem‑solving environment utilizing Six Sigma methodology to improve QCD through facility TPM, improve OEE and ensure facility compliance aligns with ISO 45001 accreditation. (20%)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education level and/or relevant experience
Degree level in Electronic/Electrical Engineering; PLC programming knowledge/experience; machine shop experience.
Knowledge and skills (general and technical)
Software proficiency: proficiency in industry software (2D/3D CAD such as Inventor or SolidWorks) and project management tools.
Engineering Principles: understands engineering principles to use complex systems, provide project guidance, and devise efficient strategies to optimise team performance and project outcomes.
Equipment Operation: understands how to operate various equipment to oversee safe use, including hydraulic presses, CNC machines, testing apparatus and software systems.
Technical writing: ability to produce clear and comprehensive documents (project reports, operation manuals, proposals).
Regulatory knowledge: knowledge of relevant industry regulations to ensure work processes and outcomes comply with safety, standards and environmental regulations.
Project management: ability to organise tasks, manage timelines and control budgets to support efficient project execution.
Leadership: guide teams towards project goals, motivate team members, resolve disputes, and foster a positive work environment.
Experience: Technical background with up to 5 years+ experience; ability to read/understand engineering drawings.
