Offer description

The SeniorRadiographer will be required to support the clinical team, and where requiredthe administrative team, in ensuring the clinical services of the departmentare optimise and patients are treated within a timely manner. Once sufficient specialist knowledge andskills are acquired, the post-holder will be expected to act as clinical leadfor the department when required.

In addition tosupporting the NHS pathway, the post-holder will be expected to help facilitatethe treatment of Private and Self-Paying patients, collating referral data,imaging, and patient information prior to treatment. The post-holder willassist in the day-to-day organisation and running of the centre and support theclinical staff in their delivery of stereotactic based treatments.

The SeniorRadiographer will assist in the day-to-day organisation, Quality Assurance, andoperation of the treatment unit. They will deputise for the Lead Radiographerduring their absence and supervise Radiographer grade staff and support staffin the delivery of stereotactic based treatments. It is expected that thepost-holder be flexible with their working time to enable the clinical serviceto operate without disruption. On rare occasions it may be necessary for thepost-holder to attend the department over a weekend to support services thatcannot be delivered during a clinical week.On these occasions advanced notice will be given.


Main duties of the job

* Deliveraccurate and efficient radiation treatment and provide of a high standard ofpatient care.
* Maintainaccurate patient records by input of accurate information to reflect theservice provided and meet professional standards.
* Useacquired specialist knowledge of site-specific imaging protocols to analyseverification images and recommend any adjustments, if required, to ensuretreatments are within tolerance.
* Assesspatient condition, including treatment concerns, and prioritise work dependingon the severity of a patient condition and the direct impact on theirmanagement.
* Participatein shift sessions when necessary. e.g., during exceptional periods of increasedpatient activity.
* Administrativesupport to the departments clinical work, including:

- Scheduling, patient swabbing andhotel bookings and using acquired clinical knowledge to recognise a balancedtreatment day.

- Follow-up appointments andtreatment rescheduling.

* Collatingtreatment information relating to activity and contacting appropriate partiesin a timely manner.
* Contributeto the Risk and Incident Register and to actively manage those elementsrelevant to the treatment delivery/clinical operation of the department.
* UndertakeRadiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) course to support and uphold thedepartments IRMER commitment.

Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Qualifications

* - BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent qualification.
* - HCPC registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer.
* - Previous experience in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) or Gamma Knife treatment preferable.
* - Experience working in a specialist radiotherapy or oncology setting.
* - Knowledge of IR(ME)R and clinical governance regulations.


Experience

* - Strong interest in stereotactic radiosurgery and a willingness to develop specialist skills.
* - Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate and professional approach.
* - Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
* - Strong communication and organisational skills.
