B7 AHP for Hyperacute Rehabilitation Pathway – Occupational Therapist

Main duties of the job
We have received funding via NHSE to develop and pilot a high‑intensity, specialised MDT Hyper Acute Rehab pathway at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). The pathway is led by a Rehabilitation consultant and an AHP Lead for patients with complex rehabilitation needs following major trauma or illness.
As part of this project, this role will involve working within a full AHP team on a 12‑month secondment at UHS. Posts can be full‑time or part‑time and are open to qualified professionals with robust B6 or B7 postgraduate knowledge and experience in acute neuro‑rehabilitation.
The team will be led by an 8a Clinical Specialist and you, as a B7, will be expected to support them and deputise in their absence.
Full patient care across a five‑day service may include bank holidays, on a roster basis. Flexibility in working hours is required.

Job responsibilities
Provide advanced clinical skills in acute neuro‑rehabilitation and deliver high‑intensity, specialised hyper‑acute rehabilitation (HAR) under the direction of a Rehabilitation Medicine consultant. Work closely with the dedicated MDT to support a moderate number of appropriate UHS patients.
Contribute to the project by investigating the impact of acute intervention on the patient journey, including outcomes and length of hospital stay.
Support the B8a Clinical Specialist AHP Lead and deputise in their absence. Provide audit, research and service development input.

* Confident educator of staff and peer professionals
Professional qualification and experience
* Registered HCPC and advanced or postgraduate clinical skills in acute neuro‑rehabilitation
* Experience in day‑to‑day team management
* Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
* Desire and reasons for working in acute rehabilitation at UHS clearly expressed
Desirable skills
* Evidence of teaching to your own profession and students

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Masters in Occupational Therapy or equivalent (highly specialist)
* Current HCPC registration
* Significant relevant clinical experience in physiotherapy practice
* Evidence of proven leadership and supervisory skills
* Previous experience within relevant clinical area
* Previous on‑call experience where relevant
* Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Experience of audit, evaluation or research
* Evidence of implementing change in a clinical environment
* Attendance at post‑graduation courses or conferences relevant to clinical area
* Understanding of healthcare priorities and political agenda
* Experience working in an acute hospital setting

Salary: £47,810 to £54,710 per year, pro rata per annum.
