Are you a graduate looking to begin a career in teaching? The Future Teachers Programme in Manchester offers a structured two-year route into the profession—starting with paid school-based experience and leading directly into a salaried teacher training year.
About the Programme
Designed for graduates who want to explore the teaching profession before enrolling in formal training, this pathway provides hands-on experience, mentoring, and a guaranteed progression into teacher training.
Year 1: Classroom Experience (Cover Supervisor Role)
Work in a Manchester secondary school as a Cover Supervisor
Supervise lessons using work already set by the class teacher
Gain practical behaviour management and classroom confidence
No responsibility for planning, marking, or active teaching
Become familiar with school routines, policies, and teaching styles
Year 2: Salaried Teacher Training
Move into a fully salaried Initial Teacher Training (ITT) position
Work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Train within the same school or trust for continuity and support
Receive weekly mentoring and professional development
Option to complete a PGCE alongside QTS
