Advanced Childrens Occupational Therapist

Children's Therapies is a supportive and well established, integrated team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists working across a range of community settings including early years clinics, mainstream and special schools, within Sandwell.

As the quality lead for Occupational Therapy you will hold a clinical caseload and work in collaboration with the Service Lead, Team Leaders and colleagues to agree priorities and action plans for taking quality initiatives forward within the team.


Main duties of the job

To provide assessments and intervention for children and young people with a physical disability or motor coordination problem that is affecting participation in self care, school work or leisure activities.

To work with parents and carers to ensure they are confident and competent to implement therapy recommendations into the child's daily routine.

Assess for / recommend equipment to support access to the curriculum in school and ensure that children, young people and those supporting them know how to use it.

To contribute to Education Health and Care assessments and provide written reports outlining abilities needs and required support.

To have a focus on quality improvement initiatives for the team, in collaboration with a Physiotherapy and Speech & Language Therapy colleague in the same role. This includes planning our monthly Quality Improvement Half Days and supporting task and finish groups in line with our team PDR.

To provide leadership, supervision and support for Junior Occupational Therapy staff and colleagues within the wider team.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Relevant professional degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC Registration


Experience

* Evidence of a range of post-graduate and post-competency experience working with children in a variety of settings, with a range of paediatric conditions and experience of delivering a range of appropriate, evidence-based interventions
* Experience of managing and prioritising a case-load.
* Experience of participating in the delivery and development of training to a variety of recipients, both professional and non-professional.
* Experience of participating in clinical service development in response to local and national priorities involving audit, quality initiatives, research and user feedback.
* Experience of working with assistants, students, newly qualified therapists and others as appropriate.


Knowledge

* Knowledge of conditions and potential impact on children's occupational performance
* Knowledge of government directives that influence the provision of children's services
* Excellent written skills for the purposes of report writing, designing training packages and contributing to policies
