The Role
As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, your work will be classroom-based, providing hands-on support to pupils with ASD. You will work with individuals and small groups, assisting the class teacher and contributing to personalised support that makes a real difference every day. This role offers practical experience in behaviour support, communication strategies, personal care, feeding support, and classroom routines — all valuable for a future in clinical psychology.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide 1:1 support and small group assistance for pupils with ASD within the classroom
2. Support communication using visual tools such as PECS, visuals, now/next boards, and social stories
3. Assist with personal care and feeding support as required
4. Support pupils’ behaviour and emotional regulation using positive behaviour strategies
5. Help implement structured learning approaches and classroom routines
6. Work closely with the classroom teacher to adapt activities and promote engagement
7. Support pupils’ sensory needs through movement breaks and tailored strategies
8. Promote positive transitions and support pupils during changes in routine
9. Maintain high standards of safeguarding, professionalism, and empathy
