Early Years SENCO
Location: Nelson Job Type: Full-Time Salary: £25,714 - £27,280 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications) Hours: 40 hours per week, flexible shifts between 7:30am - 6:00pm
We are recruiting for a well-established private nursery in Nelson with a strong commitment to inclusive early years education. We are seeking an experienced Early Years SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to join their team. This is a key role for a motivated practitioner who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping staff deliver inclusive, high-quality learning opportunities.
Responsibilities
* Lead the identification, planning, and support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)
* Develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and targeted support strategies
* Work closely with parents, carers, external professionals, and agencies to ensure coordinated care and early intervention
* Guide and support colleagues in implementing inclusive practices
* Monitor children's progress and ensure accurate documentation and records are maintained
* Contribute to and deliver staff training related to SEND and inclusion
* Ensure compliance with current SEND legislation and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
Essential Requirements
* Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Childcare/Early Years
* Substantial experience supporting children with SEND in an early years setting
* Strong working knowledge of:
o Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
o Portage and other early intervention strategies
o The SEND Code of Practice
* Experience liaising with external professionals (e.g. health visitors, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists)
* Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills
* Ability to mentor and support a team in inclusive, child-centred practice
Desirable
* SENCO qualification or training (or willingness to undertake it)
