Job overview

This post is intended as an opportunity for an experienced Emergency department nurse to consolidate their experience to date and provide an opportunity to gain experience in working alongside the matrons and the senior management team within ED and across the directorate and clinical group at a strategic level to enhance the patient experience and outcomes, staff management and support and to develop an understanding audit and how this contributed to quality improvement

This is an internal 6 months secondment

Main duties of the job

Working alongside the Matron, and department sisters./charge nurses and deputies Ward to ensure that safe staffing is maintained at all times across the directorate, ensuring safe patient care. This will involve attending staffing review meetings and sit reps, responding to red flags, liaising with trust bank, and updating health roster.

The post holder will also support teams with quality improvement and patient safety across the ED including maintaining and reviewing standards in line with care quality commission (CQC), risk assessment attending weekly security meetings, and patient safety reviews. The post holder will respond to incidents and complaints, and if necessary lead on investigations in collaboration with clinical teams.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post will provide operational support to ED, to ensure safe and effective staffing. This post will also ensure the patient pathway is met in a timely manner, responding to and addressing challenges of patient flow across the emergency floor.

The post holder will also support teams with quality improvement and patient safety across the ED including maintaining and reviewing standards in line with care quality commission (CQC), risk assessment attending weekly security meetings, and patient safety reviews. The post holder will respond to incidents and complaints, and if necessary lead on investigations in collaboration with clinical teams.

Person specification

Knowledge

Essential criteria

1. registered nurse BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent
2. evidence of ongoing professional development in emergency care to include ED course
3. mentorship course/SSAP
4. management qualification or equivalent experience
5. completion of all relevant ED competencies including Xray PGD, pop

Desirable criteria

6. masters degree
7. peoples management course/ leadership training
