Hours: 39 per week
1. Monday-Thursday: 07:30 - 16:30
2. Friday: 07:30 - 15:30
3. 1 in 3 weekends (15% uplift shift allowance)
A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced Electrician to join the on?site facilities team at HMP Cardiff. This role is essential in ensuring that all planned and reactive maintenance work within the prison is completed safely, efficiently, and to compliance standards.
About the Role
The Electrician will be responsible for maintaining electrical systems across the site, responding to breakdowns, and ensuring all installations and maintenance activities meet the required regulations. Previous experience with planned preventative maintenance is preferred, but not essential. While a Level 3 qualification is ideal, candidates with Level 2 experience will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
4. Uphold Health & Safety standards across the site
5. Test and inspect electrical installations in line with current IEE wiring regulations
6. Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and faults
7. Carry out planned and preventative electrical maintenance
8. Diagnose and replace failed domestic electrical components
9. Fault?find and problem?solve on domestic electrical systems
10. Undertake installation work according to technical designs and IET Wiring Regulations
11. Monitor, manage, and order critical electrical spares
12. Support sustainability and zero?carbon initiatives
13. Assist with additional duties as required by the line manager
Requirements
14. City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
15. BS7671 18th Edition (17th Edition applicants considered if willing to upskill)
16. Strong understanding of Health & Safety and maintenance processes
17. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
18. Experience working under pressure and to deadlines
19. Comfortable working at heights
20. Basic IT skills
21. Understanding of fire alarms and CCTV systems is desirable
22. Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations
