Overview
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Dietetic team in providing specialist dietetic care to complex nutrition support surgical inpatients at Aintree University Hospital.
You will be an integral member of the Surgical MDT managing the nutritional care of patients who have undergone emergency gastro-intestinal surgery. The post holder will provide timely specialist Dietetic assessment for these patients with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in complex tube feeding, management of short bowel syndrome and Parenteral Nutrition. You will be supported by the Nutrition Team and Senior Dietetic team. The Dietetic team is highly respected within the Surgical MDT and a high focus is placed upon nutritional care.
You will work within a friendly and highly skilled department as part of the Therapies Service and have numerous opportunities for professional and personal development, including in-house training, peer support sessions and role specific education. You will be actively involved in audit and quality improvement projects.
Responsibilities
* Provide timely specialist Dietetic assessment for surgical inpatients with complex nutrition needs following emergency gastro-intestinal surgery.
* Develop knowledge and skills in complex tube feeding, management of short bowel syndrome and Parenteral Nutrition.
* Work as part of the Surgical MDT and be supported by the Nutrition Team and Senior Dietetic team.
* Contribute to audit and quality improvement projects and participate in governance discussions.
* Supervise Student Dietitians and Graduate Dietitians; provide leadership and constructive feedback as part of the role.
* Educate patients, staff and colleagues; contribute to education for patients and staff.
* Identify quality issues within the service and contribute to local governance meetings.
Qualifications and Qualities
* Excellent communication skills with a practical, forward-thinking approach to service development and evaluation.
* Ability to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team.
* Proactive in innovation, service development and audit; support for personal development goals and regular clinical supervision and peer support.
* Willingness to work closely with Surgical Teams and MDT members.

To work with other health care professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team providing a high quality dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients of your clinical specialism. The role also involves education of staff and patients. To provide factually accurate, unbiased evidence-based nutritional advice appropriate to the needs of the individual.
