NHS Recruitment Advert – Band 8a Deputy ODN Manager (Neonatal) for the Strategic Network for Critical Care (SNCC) – South East Region.
Overview
The SNCC brings together the Adult and Neonatal Operational Delivery Networks (ODNs) across the Thames Valley & Wessex (TVW) and Kent, Surrey & Sussex (KSS) regions. We deliver seven core functions critical to high‑quality, equitable care: Service, Delivery, Resources, Workforce, Quality, Collaboration, and Transformation Population Health.
About the Role
Reporting to the Neonatal ODN Manager, you will support the leading and managing of the Neonatal ODN across TVW and KSS. This pivotal leadership position is set at a time of transformation under the new SNCC umbrella, providing opportunities to modernise operations, enhance cross‑regional collaboration and embed agile working across the network team and wider stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the effective day‑to‑day operational management of the network, making decisions and providing solutions to staff under pressure.
* Lead and shape the strategic direction of the network.
* Identify areas for service improvement and lead projects to enhance resource availability and streamline processes.
* Deliver regional and national targets, negotiating with clinical leads to ensure throughput of network activity.
* Exercise delegated responsibility and deputise for the ODN Manager as required.
* Line‑manage staff within the network and broader support roles.
* Act as an ambassador, modelling the Trust’s values and policies.

Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in operational delivery networks, commissioning or system‑level healthcare leadership.
* Understanding of neonatal services or critical care pathways (highly desirable).
* Proven ability to support complex programmes, manage stakeholder relationships and deliver measurable impact.
* Strong governance, analytical and strategic planning skills.
* A collaborative approach with the ability to inspire teams through change and transformation.
* Valid driving licence and ability to commute across the South East region.
Location & Travel
University Hospital Southampton – one of England’s largest acute teaching Trusts, located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London. The role requires travel across the South East; candidates must have access to a vehicle and a valid driving licence.
