Esland's Bedford School are seeking a Nurture teacher to lead delivery in our Year 7 Nurture provision.

Hours: full time (Monday to Friday)

Salary: £28,618 to £41,137 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications)

The role entails planning and delivery of a targeted curriculum for some of our most vulnerable pupils who are not yet ready to access our secondary curriculum.

The role would be suitable for teachers with either primary or secondary QTS. |Experience of working with pupils with anxiety, Emotionally-based School Avoidance and/or ASD would be preferred.

Esland Bedford School is an independent SEMH special school for up to 50 children aged 8-18. The school provides education to day pupils, and via our unique Turning the Curve provision, to young people who have been disengaged from education for significant periods of time.

We aim to maintain a nurturing and accepting environment for young people who have not had their needs met in other settings. Likewise, we also aim to provide a work/life balance to staff not available in larger schools.
1. To provide an inclusive nurturing environment that is accessible to pupils, staff, parents and carers
2. To liaise closely with colleagues in school to ensure best practice teaching strategies that meet the needs of all pupils in the class
3. To work in collaboration with the Deputy Headteacher to ensure pupil progression throughout Year 7 and enable successful transition through later years at Esland Bedford School
4. To work with the Deputy Headteacher to ensure that all pupils have their needs met as set out in their Education Health Care Plan (EHCP)
5. To provide continuity of provision and care, guidance and support for the most vulnerable learners across the curriculum.
6. To maintain up to date pupil records, including recording assessment data, maintaining accurate safeguarding records and developing effective liaison with parents and carers.
7. To support the development of schemes of work and methods of teaching/learning within the Nurture classroom
8. To be aware of and act upon national changes in the subject curriculum, ensuring that the curriculum offer within Nurture remains appropriate and in line with the curriculum through later years
9. To demonstrate unconditional positive regard to pupils, utilising strategies such as PACE and Zones of Regulation in order to support pupils in managing their own behaviour over time
10. To maintain the highest levels of expectation of pupils, supporting them to overcome barriers to learning
11. To attend parents’ meetings where appropriate
12. To assist with induction and transition processes for Year 6 students. This may involve visits to current schools
13. To ensure that practice in the Nurture class contributes to the whole school ethos and encompasses our school values
14. To carry out any reasonable tasks related to the post that may be requested

Qualification and Experience
15. Qualified Teacher Status
16. Degree qualification or equivalent
17. Demonstrable outcomes for pupils as a teacher
18. Experience as a KS2/KS3/KS4/KS5 teacher
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
19. Expert understanding of inclusive pedagogy
20. Experience of assessment without levels including tracking pupil progress
21. Knowledge and understanding of statutory assessment arrangements at KS2 to KS5
22. Knowledge and understanding of effective strategies to manage the behaviour of pupils
23. Excellent knowledge of inclusion including SEMH, EAL, bilingual learners, minority ethnic achievement and equality (race, disability, and gender)
24. Excellent understanding of safeguarding, especially the safety and welfare of vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils
25. The ability and willingness to teach a range of subjects
26. An understanding of a range of SEND needs, including SEMH and ASD
27. Contribution to the educational and social development of individual pupils
28. The ability to form effective relationships with young people, their families/carers and external agencies
29. To ensure that young people’s views and wishes are sought and acted upon where appropriate
30. To maintain an appropriate environment, and provide appropriate resources, to meet the needs of all pupils
31. To liaise with other teachers and teaching assistants in the team to ensure effective deployment of resources

32. Ability to set high standards and act as a positive role model
33. Has self-belief, senses opportunities, and takes the initiative in moving things forward in a positive way
34. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with pupils and adults
35. Approachable, caring and kind
36. Ability to work under pressure, has a sense of humour and appropriate work/life balance
37. Establishes and maintains constructive and open relationships with parents/carers, staff and the local community
38. Possesses a strong set of values and beliefs and shows awareness of how these fit in with the values of the school
39. Is committed to continued self-professional development and is always trying to find ways to improve and be the best they can be
Desirable
40. Experience of working in a specialist provision, either a special school or additionally resourced provision within a mainstream school
