Senior Clinical Psychologist – Acute Care – Ablett Unit, Glan Clwyd Hospital, North Wales
Job Summary
This senior post is to provide psychological input and oversight in acute care psychology services. The successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of a biopsychosocial multidisciplinary team (MDT) in the Ablett Unit, offering expert advice, consultation, training and supervision within adult mental health inpatient settings. The role will also involve direct clinical input to service users and families, as well as support and supervision for staff along the acute care pathway.
Main Duties
 * Act as a fully integrated member of the inpatient multidisciplinary mental health team.
 * Deliver specialist clinical psychology services, including assessment, therapy, and staff consultation.
 * Work autonomously in accordance with the British Psychological Society Code of Conduct, Ethical Principles and Guidelines, and the Health and Care Professions Council.
 * Plan and provide individual and group interventions, both directly and via MDT guidance.
 * Carry a specialist clinical psychology caseload of adult clients with complex presentations, including neuropsychological assessment, formulation, and intervention.
 * Provide effective clinical leadership, demonstrating excellence in assessment, evidence‑based intervention, and advice in complex cases.
 * Serve as a specialist resource to the wider professional community.

Qualifications and Experience
 * Essential Qualifications: Good Honours degree in Psychology; eligibility for British Psychological Society Chartered status; Post‑graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent for those trained before 1996) accredited by the BPS; Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Psychologist.
 * Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for difficult‑to‑treat groups (e.g., personality disorder, dual diagnoses, additional disabilities); Knowledge of specialised therapy and assessment methodologies including neuropsychological assessment; Ability to speak Welsh; Leadership and management skills.
 * Essential Experience: Substantial assessed experience as a qualified senior clinical psychologist, including significant post‑qualification experience in the relevant speciality and/or equivalent transferable skills; Demonstrated specialist training and ongoing clinical supervision as a specialist clinical psychologist.
 * Desirable Experience: Experience applying clinical psychology across different cultural contexts; Experience representing psychology within multidisciplinary care.
 * Essential Aptitude: Ability to demonstrate high competence in the speciality; Doctoral‑level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis.
 * Desirable Aptitude: Ability to speak Welsh; Leadership and management capabilities.
