This six-month secondment offers a unique and high-impact leadership opportunity within the Greater Manchester Mental Health Urgent Triage Team (MHUTT), with a particular focus on the NHS 111 Dial 2 mental health service. As Clinical Lead, you will be at the forefront of urgent mental health response across Greater Manchester, providing clinical leadership and operational oversight to a fast-paced, high-demand service. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the delivery of the NHS 111 Dial 2 pathway, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care for individuals in crisis.

Main duties of the job

Mental health crisis require timely, skilled, and compassionate intervention. This role places you at the heart of that mission—providing leadership to a team that provides critical support to individuals when they need it most, while shaping the future of urgent mental health care across Greater Manchester.

6. Clinical Leadership: Lead and support the delivery of high-quality mental health triage through NHS 111 Dial 2, ensuring clinical governance and adherence to best practice.
7. Operational Management: Oversee daily operations, including shift coordination, workforce planning, and escalation management.
8. Supervision & Support: Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to staff, promoting reflective practice and professional development.
9. Complex Case Oversight: Lead on the management of high-risk and complex presentations, ensuring robust risk assessment and decision-making.
10. System Collaboration: Work closely with system partners including emergency services, community teams, and commissioners to ensure integrated care pathways.
11. Complex Case Management: Provide expert oversight and guidance on high-risk and complex cases, ensuring safe and effective outcomes.
12. Staff Supervision & Development: Mentor and supervise a multidisciplinary team, fostering professional growth, resilience, and reflective practice.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Supervision

13. Provide clinical oversight and leadership to NHS 111/MHUTT staff, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate care.
14. Offer expert guidance on safeguarding concerns and risk management.
15. Lead on complex case reviews, ensuring robust clinical decision-making and adherence to best practice.
16. Promote trauma-informed and recovery-focused approaches across the team.
17. Operational Support.
18. Act as shift coordinator, ensuring smooth service delivery and appropriate resource allocation.
19. Deputise for the Team Manager as required, supporting operational continuity.
20. Lead and contribute to service audits, incident reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
21. Chair multidisciplinary meetings and support the integration of care pathways.

Service Development & Governance

22. Drive service innovation and contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
23. Monitor service performance, user experience, and clinical outcomes.
24. Ensure compliance with national standards, Trust policies, and regulatory frameworks.
25. Support the implementation of digital triage tools and crisis care enhancements.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

26. Maintain effective communication with service users, carers, and external partners including NWAS, GMP, and community teams.
27. Represent the service in professional forums and promote awareness of MHUTT and NHS 111 MH Option 2.
28. Foster collaborative working relationships to support integrated care delivery.

Human Resources & Staff Development

29. Support recruitment, induction, supervision, and appraisal processes.
30. Promote a culture of positivity, learning and continuous professional development.
31. Lead on student placements and contribute to staff training programmes.
32. Encourage reflective practice and wellbeing within the team.

The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. You will be required to enrol for this service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
