A Senior Network Engineer builds, administers, transitions, supports, and maintains network services throughout the service lifecycle, according to the departmental policy and Home Office strategy.
You will work in a team of network engineers ensuring services are integrated, delivered, and operated as required. You will work with and support third parties in providing network services and with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operations.
You will provide input into overall management activities such as workforce planning, budgeting, technology roadmaps, projects, and tasks.
What you will do
This role is shift-based, working within a 24/7 Network Operations Centre to support Home Office Network services. The shift pattern follows an eight-day rotation of 2 x 12-hour day shifts, 2 x 12-hour night shifts, and 4 days off.
Your main day-to-day responsibilities will be:
* Reviewing network designs to ensure appropriate technology selection, resource efficiency, and system integration.
* Capturing and analyzing network requirements for applications, including bandwidth, latency, fault tolerance, and access control.
* Investigating network issues by identifying patterns and trends, consulting specialists, and implementing fixes and preventative measures.
* Following procedures and channels for issue resolution, monitoring activities, and providing updates to users.
* Evaluating project success post-implementation, identifying best practices, and incorporating lessons learned into future planning.
* Coaching and mentoring junior Network Engineers.
