We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Consultant in Public Health who will work across various service areas, partnering with stakeholders and service providers to deliver the Council's public health functions and priorities.
You will be a forward-thinking individual with strong leadership skills, helping to shape decisions across public health functions. You will lead your team to advance our public health agenda within Sheffield and will be responsible for a specific portfolio of work.
The role requires excellent communication skills to collaborate closely with colleagues city-wide, maximizing public health outcomes. Experience working with diverse partners—including local authorities, voluntary sectors, NHS organizations, academic institutions, and the media—is essential. You should also be politically aware and capable of engaging effectively with elected Members.
The ideal candidate will be motivated, proactive, innovative, and skilled in change and project management. They must handle changing demands confidently, lead on complex public health issues, advise local authority colleagues and stakeholders, and make informed recommendations on services and social determinants of health. Negotiation, motivation, and leadership skills are crucial for managing complex issues that may arise.
The successful candidate must be a registered public health specialist with GMC, GDC, or UKPHR, with significant experience across all areas of public health practice.

This full-time position reports to the Director of Public Health (DPH) with additional accountability to other Strategic Directors for specific workstreams. The Public Health Service in Sheffield, part of the Public Health and Integrated Commissioning Directorate, aims to improve public health and reduce inequalities through system-wide action. The service comprises five teams responsible for core functions, expertise delivery, and supporting council priorities around health and wellbeing, as well as managing the PH Grant. Regular stakeholder interactions are expected across the health sector.
