Overview
Abington Park Surgery is looking for a caring, confident and motivated Salaried GP to join our innovative, well-established team (4 sessions per week: Mondays and Wednesdays). Long-term locum roles are ideal. Both experienced and newly qualified GPs are welcome to apply. We cannot support a Tier 2 visa for this short-term role.
Responsibilities
* Undertake a variety of duties in line with the current access model, including duty days, surgery and telephone consultations, visiting patients at home, on-the-day duty, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and handling queries, admin paperwork and correspondence promptly
* Demonstrate leadership and effective management of the practice; actively participate in service improvement
* Contribute to improving practice performance
* Participate in PCN activities
* Develop special clinical interests in QOF management
The Package
* 4 sessions per week (Mon and Wed)
* Competitive salary, depending on experience, up to 11K per session annually (FT or PT pro-rata)

* BMA Model contract pro-rata: 6 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave

Main duties of the job
* Delivery of high quality medical care to the practice population
* Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems; assess health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
* Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness; develop care plans in consultation with patients in line with current practice disease management protocols
* Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
* Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) when clinically appropriate
* Process administration promptly, including referrals, repeat prescription requests, documentation and other tasks
* Show leadership qualities, collaborate with the team, ensure fair workload distribution and contribute to practice performance; accept delegated responsibility for QOF/IIF areas
* Identify, implement and embed best practice through clinical guidelines and audits; commit to self-learning and CPD
* Contribute to training of medical students and GP Registrars
* Encourage collaborative working and liaise with all staff to promote continuous improvement

Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities:
* Make yourself available as agreed in the Practice timetable to undertake duties including surgery and telephone consultations, home visits, repeat prescriptions, and timely handling of queries and administrative tasks
* Make autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems; assess health care needs of patients
* Assess undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
* Screen for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
* Develop care plans with patients in line with disease management protocols
* Provide counselling and health education
* Admit or discharge patients to/from the caseload; refer to other care providers as appropriate
* Record clear notes to agreed standards
* Issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions; avoid handwritten prescriptions where possible
* Prescribe in line with the formulary (or generically) when clinically appropriate
* Undertake normal GP duties within primary care
Other Responsibilities within the Organisation:
* Comply with Practice policies/guidelines (prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety)
* Commit to lifelong learning and audit for evidence-based practice
* Contribute to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting
* Develop computer-based patient records and Read-Coding
* Attend training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies
Health & Safety:
The post-holder will implement and lead on health and safety and infection control as defined in the Practice policies and manuals, including:
* Use of personal security systems; adhere to infection control standards
* Provide guidance on specimen handling, PPE use, and infection control protocols
* Manage infection control procedures across the practice; identify training needs
* Monitor and improve cleanliness, facilities, and equipment; escalate where needed
* Infection control training at least twice annually
* Waste and instrument management; maintain sterile environments
* Maintain tidy, safe work areas and report hazards promptly

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice and GP Register
* CCT in General Practice or CEGPR or equivalent
* Included on a Medical Performers List or eligible
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Experience in general practice and working in a multi-disciplinary team
* Holder of MRCGP; evidence of other specialist interest/development/training
* Experience using electronic medical records (preferably SystmOne)
* Interest in women's medicine, including coil insertions
* Experience undertaking audits in general practice

* Understanding and delivery of GMS contracts
* Experience of working with QOF
* Experience leading quality improvement projects

* Experience with PCNs or GPA or similar organisations
