Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust is seeking a Band 6 Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join their diabetes nursing team. We are looking for a self-motivated team player to help improve patient care and outcomes across the Trust. The ideal candidate will have experience as a diabetes nurse with knowledge of diabetes treatment, and be willing to learn and develop further. Responsibilities include assessing in-patients with diabetes, reviewing and suggesting treatments, providing education to patients, relatives, and ward staff, and participating in outpatient and phone clinics. The role involves supporting and supervising junior nurses, working across sites, and covering a 7-day schedule. The team values PRIDE: Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive, and Empowerment.
Main duties of the job
1. Work as part of the multidisciplinary team providing specialist services to adults with diabetes.
2. Assist in delivering high-quality diabetes services at King George and Queen’s Hospitals.
3. Maintain high standards of nursing care, act as a role model, educator, and competent nurse.
4. Deliver education to staff, patients, and carers.
5. Support and share knowledge with healthcare professionals, including trained nursing staff and junior medical staff.
6. Participate in protocol-based nurse-led clinics for diabetes patients, including assessments and follow-up.
